Let Life Bloom in All Its Colors

The picture we hold

We often carry an idea of what a good season of life should look like.

Things are going well.
Relationships feel easy.
Work feels meaningful.
The path ahead makes sense.

And when life does not look quite like that, we wait.

For something to resolve.
For uncertainty to pass.
For things to feel lighter.

As though we can fully inhabit our lives once everything has settled.

More than one thing can be true

Life rarely arrives in such neat categories.

You can be grateful and tired.
Excited about what is beginning and sad about what is ending.
Confident in one part of your life and completely uncertain in another.
You can love where you are and still long for something different.

We often try to decide which feeling is real.

Perhaps they all are.

The colors we prefer

Some experiences are easier to welcome than others.

And without realizing it, we can begin treating parts of our experience as interruptions to the life we actually want to be living.

But perhaps a full life was never meant to be monochrome.

Allowing life to bloom in all its colors does not mean pretending everything is beautiful.

It means allowing the whole experience to belong.

Not rushing sadness because happiness feels more acceptable.
Not dismissing joy because something difficult is happening alongside it.
Not demanding certainty before allowing ourselves to enjoy what is already here.

There is something freeing about no longer requiring life to become one thing before we can fully meet it.

A small practice

Notice something in your life right now that contains more than one truth.

Instead of deciding which feeling you should have, make room for both.

Try replacing “but” with “and.”

I am excited and uncertain.
I am grateful and tired.
I am ready for something new and still attached to what was.

Notice what changes when neither experience has to cancel the other.

Reflection

  • Which colors of your life are easiest for you to welcome?

  • Where are you waiting for something to resolve before allowing yourself to fully live what is already here?

Perhaps living fully isn’t about reaching a season when everything finally feels right.

Perhaps it is about making room for the whole palette, and discovering that life can still bloom in the midst of uncertainty.
